The Standard of Hyperbaric Oxygen Delivery for Adults
The Adult High-Concentration Non-Rebreather Mask is the most widely-used oxygen delivery mask for home and clinical hyperbaric therapy. Delivering 80–95% FiO2 at practical flow rates, it provides the high-concentration oxygen therapy at the core of every effective HBOT session — at a fraction of the cost of BIBs demand systems and with universal compatibility across every hyperbaric chamber on the market.
This is the mask type recommended by most home HBOT practitioners, wellness clinics, and athletic recovery facilities. Prestige Hyperbaric masks are chosen and upgraded specifically for hyperbaric use — softer seals, more comfortable straps, and better long-session performance than the standard disposable NRBs stocked at general medical suppliers.
Why the Adult NRB Is Optimized for Hyperbaric Chamber Use
High FiO2 without the BIBs price tag. At 12–15 LPM flow, a properly-fitted NRB delivers 85–95% FiO2 — very close to what a BIBs demand mask provides — at roughly 5% of the cost. For most home users and many clinical operators, this is the sweet spot: high-concentration oxygen delivery without the specialized regulator hardware.
One-way valve system prevents CO2 rebreathing. Three valves — one intake on the reservoir bag, two exhalation valves on the mask sides — ensure the user always inhales fresh oxygen from the reservoir and never re-inhales exhaled CO2. This is what maintains FiO2 above 80% throughout the session.
Reservoir bag buffers oxygen supply. The reservoir fills between breaths, providing a "battery" of oxygen ready for the next inhalation. This is critical during deep breaths or when using an oxygen concentrator that can't quite keep up with peak inspiratory flow demand.
Prestige quality upgrades vs. standard NRBs:
- Softer medical-grade rubber face cup — no more red pressure marks after a 90-minute session
- Upgraded soft-elastic head strap — replaces the harsh plastic straps common on disposable NRBs
- Reinforced reservoir bag — thicker, more durable than emergency-use disposables
- Quality-controlled valves — quieter breathing, more reliable seal
- Universal fit — adjustable to accommodate most adult face sizes
FiO2 Performance Chart
| Oxygen Flow Rate (LPM) | Delivered FiO2 | Recommended Use |
|---|---|---|
| 6 LPM | 60% | Below recommended — reservoir may collapse |
| 8 LPM | 70% | Minimum for effective therapy |
| 10 LPM | 80% | Standard home HBOT setup |
| 12 LPM | 85% | Recommended for most sessions |
| 15 LPM | 90% | Optimal — best FiO2/flow efficiency |
| 20 LPM | 92% | Maximum practical (higher = diminishing returns) |
| 25+ LPM | 95% | Ceiling for open-flow mask designs |

Replacement Schedule
For optimal safety, hygiene, and oxygen delivery efficiency, we recommend replacing your mask at least once every 30 days with regular use. High-frequency users (daily sessions) or clinical operators should replace more often. Masks are single-patient devices — do not share between users.
Signs your mask needs replacement:
- Discoloration or yellowing of the plastic or rubber
- Cracking, stiffening, or loss of pliability in seals
- Any tear, hole, or damage to the reservoir bag or tubing
- Loss of head-strap elasticity
- Persistent odor after cleaning

Backed by Peer-Reviewed Research
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works because pressurized oxygen dissolves into blood plasma at levels far higher than normal breathing allows — reaching tissues that regular circulation cannot. The efficiency of that oxygen delivery depends heavily on the mask and delivery system used inside the chamber.
